Sea Kayaking on the Big Island of Hawaii

Big Island Sea Kayaking is a Glorious Adventure

Sea kayakingHawaii is a marvelous place to enjoy the adventure and solitude of sea kayaking. While outrigger canoeing is the traditional paddle sport and exercise of choice among Hawaii's residence, regular sea kayaking is widely available from a host of outfitters around the big island.

You can tour with an outfitter from a couple of hours to multi-day adventures. Experienced sea kayakers can rent a double or single person kayak as I did on arrival in Hawaii 4 years ago. With my background in surfing and whitewater kayaking, along with 12 years of raft guiding the world around, it was a natural fit as a sea kayaking guide and for touring around the big island. Much of my free time here has been spent learning from local paddlers and outfitters and heading off on various adventures. Sharing this knowledge with our guests is something I thoroughly enjoy.

Our northwest area of the island gives you access to some glorious sea kayaking, without the trouble of traffic or difficult directions. There are sea kayak rental companies just 10 minutes down the road as well as in Kona and Hilo. I am often seen sneaking off for a paddle with my single or double kayak and a couple of friends. It is just great here!
